Based in Cape Town, South Africa, North developed the branding and packaging for Plato, aligning the coffee company’s vision of fostering community hubs with a refreshed and versatile identity. The result celebrates Plato’s journey from a dream to a thriving network of cafes.
Plato began as a small side hustle and has since grown into a full-time business with 70 cafes employing over 350 people. With an ambitious vision to expand to 250 cafes by 2026, Plato is driven by its commitment to creating spaces where communities can connect over exceptional coffee. Across South Africa, Plato’s diverse customer base includes fashion enthusiasts in Ferndale, engineers in Secunda, Range Rover drivers in Rustenburg, and students in Stellenbosch, united by their shared appreciation for great coffee and conversation.
Recognizing the need for a brand identity that could reflect its growth and connect with its diverse clientele, Plato’s founder, Stephan Bredell, sought North’s expertise to tell the company’s story across every touchpoint.
North worked closely with Plato to create an identity that highlights its community-driven ethos and adaptability. By developing a refreshed visual identity and packaging design, the studio crafted an aesthetic that is both inviting and versatile, ensuring it aligns with Plato’s diverse audiences.
